Overview

Federal civilianHousingMuleSoftComplex integration

Home appraisals are central to HUD's housing programs, and appraisal data has to move accurately between the parties that submit it and the HUD systems that rely on it. Iron Brick architects delivered a complete, complex integration of home appraisal data, built as governed, reusable APIs with validation, security, and monitoring at every step.

The challenge

  • Appraisal data came from multiple external parties and had to reach several HUD systems, each with its own formats and rules.
  • Appraisals are detailed, structured documents, so the integration had to handle complex data and validate it before HUD systems used it.
  • Property and borrower information had to be protected throughout, and every exchange had to be traceable.

The Solution

End-to-end integration design

One integration architecture covering the full appraisal flow, from receipt through validation to delivery into HUD systems.

API contracts first

Each interface defined as a RAML or OpenAPI contract before code, so teams could build and test in parallel.

Validation and transformation

Appraisal data checked for structure and business rules, then transformed into the formats each HUD system expects.

Security by design

Authentication, authorization, and encryption on every exchange, with sensitive fields protected.

Error handling and reprocessing

Failed or invalid submissions captured, reported, and reprocessed instead of being lost.

Monitoring and automated delivery

CI/CD pipelines with automated tests, plus logging and monitoring so operations teams could trace every appraisal.

Results

Complete integration

The full appraisal data flow runs through one governed integration layer.

Trusted data

Validation means HUD systems receive appraisal data that meets their rules.

Traceable exchanges

Every appraisal can be followed from receipt to delivery.

Reusable APIs

The same APIs serve new applications and reports without new point-to-point links.

Engagements delivered by Iron Brick architects, directly and as part of prime contractor and platform partner teams. Agency names identify the customer and do not imply endorsement.
